Allspice berries, which are dark-brown and round, are native to Jamaica, Central America and Mexico. All parts of this tropical evergreen are fragrant. Allspice berries have a warm aroma and taste like a fusion of nutmeg, cinnamon and cloves--hence the name "allspice." It is an essential ingredient in jerk blend, and is perfect in desserts and bread recipes that call for cinnamon, cloves or nutmeg.
