Melegueta Pepper - Grains of Paradise
Grains of Paradise, also known as Melegueta pepper or Guinea pepper, is a rare spice
indigenous to the coastal regions of West Africa, from Sierra Leone to Angola. The
Melegueta plant, however, is not related to the pepper vine but is a member of the ginger family.
The sphere-like seeds of Grains of Paradise look very much like cardamom seeds. (Cardamom is also
a member of the ginger family.) Grains of Paradise has a pungent flavor with a peppery bite and
hints of cardamom and camphor.
Use it wherever an exotic pepper seasoning is needed, especially
in the cuisine of North Africa, including Moroccan and Tunisian dishes. Comes in our signature
airtight tin, which measures 2-1/2 inches in diameter and 1-3/4 inches in height.
